How to treat dull sneakers to make them look brighter

So, your favourite and most loyal pair of sneakers have done their time and probably look a little worse for wear, but you still don’t want to give up on them. The great news is that there is always hope for the well-worn sneaker, here is a useful way to help increase the lifespan of your sneakers and keep them looking brighter for longer.

All you need are the following moderately cheap cleaning tools and you will be good to go: an old toothbrush, baking soda, colour safe detergents and a towel.

First things first, give your sneakers a good scrub with an old toothbrush that has been lightly coated with a bit of baking soda. The baking powder will help to soak up and rub off any existing dirt on the surface of your sneaker. Next, to ensure a thorough and effective deep clean you’re going to have to put in a little elbow grease. Hand wash your sneakers in a bit of colour safe detergent. It is important to avoid bleach at all costs, because while it may seem like a logical solution, this is the worse thing you can do for your sneakers as it will give them the yellow cast which is unattractive. Your shoes will need a good wash, so 5 minutes should be sufficient. When your sneakers are as clean as you can get them, lay them out on the towel in a shady area to dry for a few hours. Once dry, they are ready for you to rock.
